After a life, and during one

Visit the memorials

Visit the memorials is on the first screen, with Past lives under it. A finished life can stay in this browser, and it can be put up where anyone can stop by. The keepsake pass is the paid way to make films, photos, albums and record books from a life that has ended, and it opens the House of Past Lives. The life itself stays free. Paying never changes a life in the simulation.

Memorials

A finished life can be kept in a public memorial where anyone can light a candle and leave a word.

These are lives someone lived to the end and wanted to keep. The buttons are Visit the memorials, Meet a life at random, and My memorials. A visitor lights a candle and leaves one of a few fixed words. There is no free text, and nobody, the operator included, can tell who left them. The maker chooses the scenes and their captions, a title, opening and closing words, the mood, the frames and the flowers. Scenes left out are not shown.

Past lives

The 10 most recent lives stay in this browser, and a deleted life cannot be brought back.

For your 10 most recent lives, press See again to reopen the death record and the share card. Show more past lives lists older rows. When the browser is keeping a fuller record of every listed life, every past life can be opened that way. If the device is short of space, See again can stop for older lives first, and a few of them remain only as rows in the list. Tidy up the records deletes. A deleted life cannot be brought back, and a life placed in a memorial stays in the memorial.

Keepsake pass

A one-time pass makes films, photos, albums and record books after a life ends. The shown price is $3, or 4,000 won in Korean.

Taxes are included. You pay the amount shown at checkout, which may be in your local currency. You buy it once and keep using it for as long as the service runs, for lives already in this browser’s past lives and for lives you live from now on. Payment is handled by Link, run by Stripe, as merchant of record. The card statement shows a name starting with LINK.COM*. An adult pays. The pass opens on this device when payment is done. On another device, type the email you paid with.

House of Past Lives

With the pass, each memorial becomes a room that holds things from that life.

The room can hold a pet the life lived with, a diploma, a wedding photo, and other things from that record. You can choose wallpaper, floor, window view, furniture, clothes and music. There are no random draws, and decorating a room never changes a life in the simulation. A house starts closed. If you open it, anyone with the link can walk through the rooms, and each of your memorials shows the house name with a link to it.

The keepsake pass is 3 US dollars or 4000 won. The browser keeps 10 past lives. A full refund window is 30 days.
The pass is $3, or 4,000 won in Korean. See again covers the 10 most recent lives. A full refund is open for 30 days.

How to keep a life

  1. Finish the life, or open Past lives on the first screen and press See again on one of the recent records. The death record and the share card open again from there. Even if you close the page, that pair can be opened from Past lives in the same browser.
  2. Visit the memorials, meet a life at random, or open My memorials. Lighting a candle and leaving one of the fixed words does not need the pass.
  3. Watch the last moments again from past lives if you want the ending the film shows. Those last moments are free for everyone. The full film, the short video, the photos, the album, the record book and the House of Past Lives are what the pass adds.
  4. In English the pass is $3, taxes included. In Korean it is 4,000 won, taxes included. Link, run by Stripe, takes the payment. Under Link’s terms an adult pays. Minors ask a parent or guardian. The pass opens on this device as soon as payment is done.
  5. On another browser, type the email you paid with. The operator’s server does not store that email. It compares a one-way hash. Payment records stay with Link and in the operator’s Stripe account.
  6. In KakaoTalk, Threads or Instagram, videos and PDFs cannot be saved. Use Move my lives on the first screen, open the life in Safari or Chrome, and make the files there. A refund within 30 days is in full: write to customerservice@1in8b.life with the email you paid with. You do not need to give a reason.

The price on the two pages

Both prices include tax. Checkout can show another currency. You pay the amount on that screen, taxes included. Questions about the payment go to Link. Questions about the pass itself, and how to use it, go to customerservice@1in8b.life. The operator remains responsible for the pass, for how it is described, and for the refund promise.

What the pass makes

The works are made on your device from the record of a life once the simulation is over. You can make them as often as you like, and you can keep them or use them on social media, in streams and in monetized videos. Lives that ended before pictures were kept, before v0.4.60, get words without pictures. On other devices you open the pass with the email you paid with.

WorkWhat you get
Life filmA vertical video of a minute and a half to two minutes, with a bonus scene after the end credits.
Short videoA 20-second teaser, and the bonus scene of about 20 seconds on its own.
Portrait photosA set of about ten.
Life albumA book to print, or to save as a PDF.
Life record bookAn HTML file with the year-by-year table and charts, the family, the decisions and the whole record, plus the year table as a CSV file.
MemorialA public page anyone can visit. As many as you like, up to 20 a day.

Refunds

Write to customerservice@1in8b.life with the email you paid with, or ask Link support from the receipt. The operator usually handles a request within 3 business days. If the law where you paid, or Link’s refund policy, gives wider rights, those rights apply. If what the pass offers is reduced, or the service has to end, that is announced on the first screen and in the update notes at least 30 days before. If the service ends, passes bought in the 90 days before are refunded on request. Films and albums already saved stay on the device.

WhenRefund
Within 30 days of paymentA full refund, no questions asked.
After 30 days, and it does not work for a technical reason that cannot be fixedA refund still applies.
After 30 days, and the pass is not as describedA refund still applies.
You paid twice for the same thing by mistakeA refund still applies.
A minor paid without a parent or guardianA refund still applies. Tell the operator.
After a refund, or a payment reversed through a card disputeThe pass can no longer make anything new. Films, albums and record books already saved stay. Memorials already up stay, and can still be taken down from the device that made them.

What can go on a memorial

A memorial is for a life lived in the simulation, and it is public. Only names the simulation gave can go up. Words that hurt others, contact details, and anything that identifies a real person are filtered. No filter catches everything. The operator may take down or hide a memorial, or a house name, that is about a real person or that harms someone else’s rights, such as reputation or privacy. House names are filtered the same way.

If a post, a memorial or a house name harms your rights, use the report button or write to customerservice@1in8b.life. It is hidden while it is looked into, and you are told what was decided. Memorials stay up for as long as the service runs. You can take yours down any time from the device that made it. It is deleted, and its place comes back.

Shared cards and memorials do not carry drug dependence or sexual violence, and they do not name suicide. In the simulation, drug dependence and sexual violence happen as often as the real statistics say, never shown in detail or how, always with where to find help, and not on shared cards or memorials. Suicide happens from the teenage years on, as often as the real statistics say, without showing how or why, and shared cards and memorials do not name it.

Where the records actually sit

Life records are kept only on your device, in browser storage. Your lives are kept in this browser only. They can disappear if you clear the site data, if the browser runs out of space, or in browsers that clear data of sites not visited for a while, such as Safari. An in-app browser, Safari, Chrome, and each phone keep separate records. Move my lives on the first screen carries them over.

An unfinished life is saved the same way. If you press Be born while one is still going, that life will disappear without a record if you start another. A real life cannot be started over. Here you get to choose, and the button to go back is on that warning.

Support through Ko-fi closed on October 8, 2026. Everyone who gave gets a keepsake pass. Open it with the email you gave with. If it does not open, or if you gave by mistake, write to customerservice@1in8b.life.

What the pass does not change

Keepsakes are not items used in the simulation. They are works made from a finished life. They never change a life in the simulation, and without them all of 1 in 8 Billion is exactly the same, and free. There are no accounts, nothing is sold inside the life, and the country draw, the year’s focus and the pause ages do not move when a pass is paid.

Streaming and videos are separate from the pass. You are free to stream 1 in 8 Billion or make videos of the lives you live here, without asking first, including on monetized channels and in TV or radio programs. A credit, 1 in 8 Billion and 1in8b.life, is appreciated.

The life is made for ages 15 and up. Players under 15 should use it with a parent or guardian. Children under 14 should not use the features that keep personal information: shared lives, feedback, and the keepsake pass. The pass must be paid for by an adult. From October 19, 2026, teachers can ask for a classroom link. Classroom mode holds content back by the operator’s guideline of ages 12 and up, and it turns off every feature that keeps personal information, and payments. In that mode the teacher is asked to watch and guide alongside the pupils.
